Reactions: Not what I was expecting, in a good way!
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video
I had a very different movie in mind from having seen the trailer so many times. For some reason I thought he was a gangster or bad guy of some sort who used his inability to feel pain to do bad stuff. Boy was I wrong. Instead, Jack Quaid plays Nathan, a bank manager who can’t feel pain and has to take severe precautions in life to avoid hurting himself. He gets embroiled in a hero’s adventure gone upside down when his back gets robbed. It’s pretty captivating.
Nathan sustains some pretty wild and jump-worthy injuries in pursuit of saving the day. I tend to be pretty squeamish about that kind of stuff, and I felt the squeam multiple times while watching Novocaine.
I was pleasantly surprised to see Amber Midthunder in a leading role. I always loved her in Legion (one of my all time favorite superhero tv shows).
Overall this was fun, on the shorter side (under two hours), action packed, and once again, (say it with me) a fresh new idea. Weird, but fresh. I dug it. If you don’t mind pain being inflicted over and over (that he never feels or reacts to), you might like Novocaine too. Go check it out.
