Adults

Reactions: LOL Funny, Gen Z version of Friends
Where to watch: Hulu

I had no expectations when I started the pilot episode of Adults. I’d never heard of it, and it’s pretty new. But I saw three familiar faces (Owen Thiel recently from Overcompensating, Amita Rao from Deli Boys, and Jack Innanen from TikTok sketches – more on him in a moment). Needless to say I was intrigued.

The first two episodes get off to a slow start. It’s clear the writers and actors were finding their rhythm. But they find it and then some! The next six episodes are hilarious. This is a show about four (and then five) friends living in one of their parents’ houses in Queens. They all seem to derive happiness in life from the friendships in the house, but otherwise seem directionless and broke. Some have jobs, but we never really see them at work (except for one character but that’s short lived and only to move her character’s directionless plot along). This absolutely feels like the Gen Z version of Friends.

There are so many LOL moments. Charlie Fox (yes, from Daredevil) is a guest star and has one of the funniest scenes in the entire show. Julia Fox also guest stars and is also perfection in her cameo!

But let’s get down to it. Jack Innanen. I’ve loved him for years. His TikTok sketches are so funny. His Canadian humor always makes me laugh. And he’s fluid and hot af. I’d watch Jack do almost anything on screen. I’d tune in to watch him alphabetize his sock drawer. I’d binge watch him watering his plants in slow-motion. I’d buy front row seats to him reading the Apple iOS terms and agreements on stage. I’d campout to be able to see him counting ceiling tiles at the airpot. I think you get the picture.

But, the question was: Would he be any good at acting in a TV show? Well, I personally think the answer is a resounding yes. Of course, you can probably tell from above that I’m a bit biased.

Every character in this show is perfectly crafted, and each is funny in their own rights. The actors are great and the writers Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw gave created something really promising. I hope more people watch Adults, love it, and that it gets green lit for more seasons.

I whole-heartedly encourage you to go watch this show!
