Reactions: So good! Not as scary as I was led to believe

My friends kept consistently telling me two things about the movie Sinners. 1. It’s so good, and 2. It’s scary and made them jump! They felt compelled to tell me that last part because I’m a total fraidy cat. I don’t do scary movies. Sinners is different, though.

First, yes, Sinners is so good. I loved the slow build. I loved the character building. I loved the juke joint scenes. The music was phenomenal. Michael B. Jordan is stunning. The main music scene that anchors the movie is transcendent. The acting is top notch. If this doesn’t get nominated for awards, then Hollywood is broken.

Second, it’s not that scary. I jumped once but it wasn’t even a monster scene. Ha! Mostly, I think the supernatural element is so nicely weaved into the story that when monsters show up, it’s not as terrifying as it is an expected part of the lore. I also don’t get as scared by vampire movies as other kinds of scary movies. Maybe I have my years of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom to thank for that. Sinners strikes the perfect balance of thriller, horror, and action.

I can’t say much more without spoiling things. Instead I’ll simply tell you to go watch Sinners. You’ll enjoy it!
