Reactions: Surprisingly good, fresh concept

I really didn’t know what to expect when I started this movie one weekend night. And boy was I pleasantly surprised. The Gorge is a fresh sci-fi concept, and you know how I get really excited about fresh concepts! (I’m sooooo over the remakes and reboots and sequels in Hollywood!)

It stars two character: One American sniper who can hit things a mile away (Miles Teller). And another a Russian assassin who can do the same (Anna Taylor-Joy). They’re both mercenaries for-hire and their respective countries hire them to spend a year protecting a deep chasm. That’s all they know. They get air dropped into an unknown territory, find the person they’re replacing, and take their respective places in heavily armed and automated watch towers on either side of the gorge.

What follows is an adorable love story between Miles Teller and Anna Taylor-Joy. They play their parts perfectly and I fell for them and their flirtatious relationship instantly. Then, dun dun dun… mishaps happen and mayhem ensues!

The sci-fi adventure that follows is so much fun. I won’t give any more away because the surprise of it all is part of the fun.

The Gorge isn’t going to win any academy awards. But it’s entirely enjoyable to watch. And it checks my “fresh new sci-fi content” box.
