Reactions: Hell yeah. Binge-worthy
Where to watch: Netflix
Netflix has been on a roll adapting video games to animated television shows. Notably: Arcane, Castlevania, Dota, Dragon Age, and Captain Laswerhawk. I loved Devil May Cry just as much as I loved these other titles too.
The show follows Dante, a demon hunter, who has extra-human powers. Right off the bat, we learn he’s probably a demon/human hybrid, which puts him at odds with the elite government force of demon hunters. Because… he too is a demon and their sworn enemy, though he doesn’t know this at first. Obviously they try to find common ground since his whole thing is, you know, also killing demons. Enemy of my enemy is my friend sorta thing.
There are so many surprise twists, that I can’t say much more about the story line. But, the animation is awesome. The characters are well written, as is their dialogue. The plot unfolds at a good pace so that you don’t get lost with all the new information and plot twists that spring up on you. And, the big reveal and Dante’s “leveling up” is so fucking badass.
I loved Devil May Cry. But then I’m very partial to this genre of sci-fi/fantasy video games that are adapted to animated television. If that’s your vibe too, then go watch this one!
