What We Do In The Shadows

Reactions: Amazing, LOL, Comedy Done Right
Where to watch: Hulu

I loved every single minute of every episode of all six season of What We Do In The Shadows. Years ago, I’d tried watching the movie and wasn’t wowed. But someone a few months ago assured me that the TV show was so much better.

And, often at night I watch an hour of TV but have a little time left before bed. If I end up starting another hour-long episode, I’m fucked and don’t get to bed in time and don’t get my seven hours of shuteye. Also, sometimes I watch heavy, dark shows and going right to bed after that fucks with my dreams. Which is why stumbling on a hilarious, light, clever, show with 30-minute episodes was the perfect before-bed remedy.

The premise is that there are three vampires who are a thousand years old and they all live together in a creepy old mansion in Staten Island. They’re joined by an energy vampire who “feeds” on people by boring them (sometimes to death) rather than sucking their blood. And of course, there’s their human “familiar” Guillermo. And all of these folks have agreed to have their lives filmed by a documentary film crew.

So, yes, this is another documentary-style show. And yes, I’ve ranted about how that format is SO overdone before. But then I was proved wrong by this show. It’s simply brilliant. I am not exaggerating when I say that I lit-er-a-lly laughed OUT LOUD every single episode.

I’ll also say the very last episode is pure perfection. They ended the six long seasons so wonderfully. It was everything I needed the ending to be. I loved it.

I don’t want to give much more away because it’s filled with such delightful surprises. Go watch it. You want be sorry.

As you might guess, I HIGHLY recommend this show.
