A Quiet Place: Day One

Reactions: WHOA, Intense, Need a klonopin!
Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

Let me just say it real clear for the people in the back: I do not do well with scary movies. I once had nightmares for a week just from seeing the trailer of Human Centipede. I don’t watch scary movies. With all movies, I get engrossed. My imagination takes over. I am living and breathing the story, in real time. So scary movies are rough for me.

That being said, I’ve loved the A Quiet Place movies and knew I had to finally buckle up and see the prequel. And I loved it.

Lupita Nyong’o is fantastic in her role. And at first I worried that the cat would be annoying. But there’s actually a really really cool scene with the cat and the monsters. Good kitty.

During the movie I kept thinking that the finance bro looked familiar. When it was over, I picked up my phone and was like, “ohhhh HIM!” It’s Joseph Quinn aka Eddie Munson from Stranger Things. He’s also going to be the new Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four reboot. And apparently he’s the emperor in Gladiator 2, which I still need to watch and report on here.

As far as prequels go, A Quiet Place: Day One does it right. I loved that it tells the story or random people, pushed together in survival. One aspect that was so intense was the lack of knowledge. By the time the other movies happen, we know more about the monsters. But in this prequel, no one knows anything. And the terror of the unknown is palpable.

If you need to get your heart racing, this movie will do it. I definitely recommend that you watch A Quiet Place: Day One.
