Captain America: Brave New World

Where to watch: Theaters
Reactions: “Fine,” Forgettable

This is another one of those reviews of something that I didn’t like that much. But, Captain America, Brave New World was… fine. It’s what you’d expect from Marvel these days: Filler content to keep the franchise going.

What I liked:

  • We get to see Sam as Cap on the big screen finally.
  • Danny Ramirez, who plays Falcon, is delightful, funny, and hot
  • There were some good fight scenes

What I didn’t like:

  • Pitting the Hulk against two non-powered human heroes was dumb. I mean I get why they did it. It plays into Sam’s concern that he’s not up to the mantle of Captain America without the super serum. Sure. Fine. But, come on. He has to battle a damn Hulk. Not even the actual Avengers can defeat a Hulk.
  • The story was really boring and slow. The first half felt mostly about politics.
  • The story was so very convoluted. We have the Celestial Being. We have adamantium. We have one, nay two Gamma radiation villains. We have characters from an old Hulk movie. We have a war between the US and Japan. We have cameos from Bucky and Liv Tyler. We have the proposition of restarting the Avengers. It’s just all over the place.
  • And finally, 82-year old Harrison Ford. I’m sorry, but no. I will scream this loudly and broadly: OLD WHITE MEN NEED TO RETIRE. That goes for CEOs, Presidents, Congress people, and beyond.
  • The end-credits was a total waste of time sitting through the credits.

I do not recommend watching this movie. It’s a throw-away movie. Forgettable. It plays no important role other than setting up the next Avengers movie and it doesn’t even do that particularly well.
